The book Totto chan is a beautiful story that describes the journey of a little girl from being a rogue to a sweet person. Its a sweet story that one rarely gets to read in the days of a ruthless war. It justifies how the environment of a person affects his person and how teachers and education can shape a life. 'Meanwhile, Upriver', apart from being a gripping story, acts as a guide to the holy mother Ganga. Chatura Rao has well depicted the beauty of the threads of stories that revolve around the holy waters. The indianness of Yamini and the pure innocence of Shiva adds glitter to the text of the novel. In all, the story and the plot is something that any Indian can relate to.

The evergreen book rocks about the leisure boat trip of Jerome, his friends and his dog Montmorency. Apart from being a brilliant piece of literature, the book conveys a comic sense too. The way the author describes an incident brings immense charm to the reader. However, the novel continues to please everyone with it's magical play of words, from a critic's point of view, it seems being stretched at times. In a nutshell, it continues to please generations as a classic
